Crib Bedding

by Emily on May 6, 2009

More baby tips! This one’s all about crib bedding. I know lots of people spend quite a bit on crib bedding, but if you want to do it cheap (and still cute!) it is possible.

Here what I did:
Sheets: Carter’s in Ecru- I spend about $30 for a couple of sets
Bumper: Also Carter’s in Brown- $30
Bedskirt: I found some corduroy on clearance and my aunt made it- $15 (material + pattern)

I bought different sheets at first from a set, but they shrank horribly so I switched to the Carter’s. I ended up really loving my “custom” look.

Even with my shrinking sheet mistake, I still spent less than $100! Pretty good, I think.

Ok… I also have a tip for making up a crib that was passed along to me from my MIL.

Start by putting on your mattress cover.

Then sheet #1.

Then a waterproof pad.

Then sheet #2.

Now, when your baby has an accident (diaper explosion, vomiting, ect.) in the middle of the night, you’ll only have to pull sheet #2 off and your good to go!

To be honest, I haven’t had to change a lot of sheets in the middle of the night, but if you’ve ever changed crib sheets you know that 2 a.m. is not the time to do it!

Adorable crib bedding and great tip!

I didn’t buy expensive crib bedding for my second either.

My third is on the way and I’m loving this idea!

Thanks!

So cute! I love the 2 sheet idea. I may use this for my kids (ages 3 and 5), since that would be a good tip for any age. You never know what might happen in the middle of the night!

We have an eleven month old, so I hear you on the crib bedding :) I bought two fitted sheets at Target for about six bucks each, but I forget how much the mattress pad cost. I sewed the bedskirt myself with fabric from my stash, and we don’t have bumpers because I read that they increase the risk of SIDS.

Sewingchick… I read that too about SIDS and didn’t have a bumper for awhile. But my little guy is 6 months now and was waking up crying with arms and legs stuck out of the crib. I tried the mesh ones, but my crib has odd slats and it wouldn’t fit!

He can roll over both ways, and has really good head control so I’m comfortable with it now.

Actually, an even better tip is layer your crib sheets (we do 5 or 6 at a time, however many that will fit) and place 2 puppy pee pads in between each sheet. It is the same idea as the waterproof pad, but this way you can layer lots more, because it is thinner. This is good for in the middle of the night accidents or just having to do the weekly sheet change.
