Teething Toy

by Emily on May 27, 2009

Update: The original teething BonBons are trademarked property. My project was intended for personal use only!

I found some cute little teething toys online called “teething bon bons“, and I thought they were darling. They were a little flannel ball with knots on either side with a little stuffing in the middle. You dip the knots in water and then freeze. They were really, really cute.

So I decided to made my own this weekend! (With a tiny bit of help from my mom and aunt! )

If you want to make your own too, here’s what I did:

1) Make a pattern on paper. It took me several attempts to get the size/shape just right. Pin to your material (this is a receiving blanket) and cut out. You’ll need two!
{by the way, I made that pincushion in 6th grade. I have mad sewing skills…}
2) Place piece right sides together and sew around the edge.
3) Leave a little opening so you can add stuffing.
4) Turn right side out, and tie a knot on one side.
5) Fill center with a little stuffing, and then tie a knot on the other side.
6) Hand stitch that little opening closed.

It took me a couple of tries to perfect the system. In fact you can see I made several different sizes. They all worked just fine, but I think the tiny ones are just too cute!

7) Dip the knots in water and toss ‘em in the freezer for a little bit.

8) Mmm Mmmm Good!

I saw those too and thought they were a good idea. (So much safer than the maybe from China poisoned with who knows what kinda paint ones.) I too thought they were pricey. Never thought to make them though and that's not like me! LOL! Thanks for the inspiration! They would be such an easy toss in the bag extra for shower gifts.
